The Museum is located at Prinsengracht 112, a few steps from the Anne Frank House and the Wester Kerk (Church). We are just south of where the Prinsengracht meets the Egelantiersgracht.

From Central Station it is an easy 15 minutes walk or take tram 13, 17 or busses 21, 170, 171, 172 to the Wester Kerk.

The Wester Kerk is an easy landmark to spot because of its tall and beautiful tower. The nearby Jordaan-district is a romantic place with quiet little streets, cozy restaurants, cafes, shops and art galleries.

Our museum shop, 'de Bollenmand', stocks bulbs to plant, books to educate, and craft items to bring the story and beauty of tulips into your daily life.

Books about the history of the Tulip ,the cultivation and enjoyment of flowering bulbs are always in stock as well as full-length DVDs of the History of the Tulip.

A large collection of antique tiles with tulip patterns are on display.

Cards, posters, purses, pillows and other household items with tulip motifs make a nice gift or souvenir of your visit to Amsterdam.

In season there are always packages of bulbs pre-approved by the USDA for our American customers to carry home with them.

American customers can place an order at the shop anytime of the year for delivery in the United States in the Fall.

Bulbs for fall planting arrive in September : Tulips, Narcissus, Hyacinth, Crocus, Leocojeum, Chiniodoxia, Fritillaria, Scilla and Alliums . These bulbs continue to be available through late November and early December.

In October Amaryllis and Paperwhites for indoor growing and Christmas gifts are available.

Being bulb wholesalers we spend about two months every year in the Netherlands, visiting growers and suppliers, walking the fields and in general learning everything we can about each year's crop. The growers in Holland are the best, family businesses that turn out bulbs of astounding beauty and quality year in and year out, regardless of the weather, fashion or the economy.. Sometimes we feel closer to tulips when we return home to the States than we do when we are in Amsterdam.

If you ask an Amsterdammer about business in the Netherlands they will invariably talk about Shell Oil and Philips and high tech companies. To so many cosmopolitan Dutch the Tulip industry is a tired old anachronism like windmills , wooden shoes and Hans Brinker. There was no place in Amsterdam that told the story of Tulips, hands down the world's most beautiful and varied flower. Tourists come from every corner of the world to Amsterdam and find barely a mention of the tulip story. It seemed time to tell the world that the Tulip was sexy again, just like it always was.

Tulips and other bulbs are really the simplest flowers of all. Just no one was remembering to tell the story to the next generation.

So when we found a shop available in the Jordaan we took it right away for the Tulip museum. We didn't do a feasability study to tell us if it was good idea. It just seemed right. My father and grandfather worked a lifetime at tulips. Colorblends owes its success to them and the growers in North Holland that are tonight discussing the tulip crop at the dinner table. I am sure that among our children there are some lucky and hard working ones that will dedicate their careers to this great flower.

Oh, and by the way when we take cut tulips from the fields down to the museum it is the Amsterdammers that are most shocked at their beauty. They say "I've never seen tulips like that!".

Some times you don't know a good thing even when its under your nose.
