  Wild Tulips

These cheerful little beauties are the forebears of today's hybrids. They look delicate, but they're actually very tough, having endured for hundreds, and probably thousands, of years in places like Asia Minor and the Causasus, where winters are long and cold, springs are short, and summers are hot and dry. They look great in a rock garden, at the front of a sunny flower bed or along the edge of a path. If given plenty of sun and well-drained soil, most will flower well for several years.
