Woodland Blend™

A blend of five early bloomers that can take up long-term residence in the shade of deciduous trees. All they require to flourish is well-drained soil and plenty of spring sunshine. Introduced 2010

The photos include a series shot in a Colorblender’s garden over a one-month period in spring. Your results may (and almost certainly will) vary, but you can expect an evolving and colorful show from this group of shade-tolerant, early-flowering bulbs.

Item # 6051
Height 3—9 inches
Sunlight Full or Part
Soil Well drained
Flower Color Yellow, Purplish Pink, and Blue

Bulb Size Topsize
?
Bulb size is determined by the circumference around the largest part of the bulb. Colorblends only delivers top size bulbs. Large bulbs produce more or larger flowers than small bulbs.
USDA Zones 5a—8b
?
Hardy in USDA zones 5a to 8b in the South or 10b on the West Coast. Prechill in zones 7b and warmer in the South, Southwest, and California.
Bloom Time Very Early to Early
Bloom times are relative within the spring bulb season, which varies from place to place and year to year. They are intended to help you plan a sequence of bloom from Very Early season to Very Late season. About two weeks separate Early from Mid and Mid from Late. The start and duration of bloom is heavily dependent on the weather. Warm temperatures speed up growth and flowering; cold temperatures slow them down.

Planting Instructions

The bulbs in this blend have the ability to grow and flower well under the shade of trees that loose their leaves. Because they are up early, they are able to get most of the sunlight they need before the trees leaf out. All need well-drained soil.
